  Amman, 20 November 2006 - UNIDO celebrates its 40th Anniversary

Under the patronage of His Excellency, the Minister of Industry and Trade, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) celebrates its 40th Anniversary in an official ceremony held in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The ceremony, to be held on Wednesday, 22 November 2006, includes statements by UNDP Resident Representative, a.i. in Jordan and the UNIDO Regional Director for Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Jordan, who has come from Lebanon especially for this occasion. The ceremony will also include a presentation of UNIDO’s most important achievements in Jordan and around the world, as well as speeches by Jordanian beneficiaries of UNIDO’s local projects.

Established in 1966, UNIDO became a specialized United Nations agency in 1985. As part of the UN system, UNIDO cooperates with its 171 Member States for enhancing industrial development in the various parts of the developing world.

UNIDO’s Headquarters is in Vienna and has active field presence through its 29 country and regional offices, 14 offices for promoting investment and technological development, and several other offices charged with specific aspects of the organization’s work.
