The United Nations Inter-Agency Human Rights Small Grants Programme and the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ); a local Jordanian NGO, signed an agreement to produce a resources CD Rom and database which consists of an arabic language enabled CD with links to organizations' sites and activities which are considered important for journalists.
The project is funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy and aims to grant journalists an opportunity to utlilize new methods and technologies in their profession, and provide with them with a useful information base to enhance their knowledge and skills.
The information provided on the CD shall include a number of press laws in Jordan and the Arab World, a training manual on the legal methods for protecting and defending journalists, and the most important international agreements concerning freedom of expression and human rights.
Furthermore, the CD will contain a code of ethics in practicing journalism, information on journalists in Jordan, and contact details of journalists, governmental and non governmental organisations.
The CD is considered the first of its kind in the Arab World. It shall provide links to international organizations working in the field of human rights and freedom of expression such as the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Reporters Sans Frontieres.
The Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists expects to implement and execute the project over a five month period.
