Return
People with physical disabilities will soon benefit from equal education and employment opportunities to participate socially and economically through access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications and services.

In compliance with the vision of H.M. King Abdullah II of shifting the Jordanian society as one towards a modern IT society and in consistence with the Government’s efforts of strengthening human resource capacities in the Kingdom through improving the education system and enhancing local skills, the main aim of the Euro 400,000 project financed by the Government of Italy is to ensure the inclusion of disadvantaged groups such as people with physical disabilities.

The project helps establish a specialized IT center at the Al-Hussein Society for the Habilitation and Rehabilitation of the Physically Challenged (AHS) with adequate equipment and training for people with physical disabilities. The center falls under the broader umbrella of the Knowledge Stations initiative funded by the King Abdullah II Fund for Development and is managed by Associatione Volontari per il Servizio Internazionale (AVSI) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The project will also develop a programme that increases awareness among community members on the rights and opportunities of people with physical disabilities and will provide business development advice and services as well as other income-generating projects for people with physical disabilities. The Center will also aim to become a research center for the collection and dissemination of data and information on the situation of the physical disabled people in the country.
