In preparation for the 2005 World Summit which will convene next September in New York, the United Nations Organizations in Jordan organized "2005 World Summit Jordan Forum" on Tuesday, 30 August 2005.

The World Summit in New York is expected to be the largest gathering of world leaders in history, where the 191 member states of the United Nations will undertake a comprehensive review of the progress made in the fulfillment of the commitments of the UN Millennium Declaration, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and will take major decisions based on the UN Secretary-General's proposals in his report to world leaders "In Larger Freedom: Towards development, security and human rights for all".

In preparing the report "In Larger Freedom", Kofi Annan had drawn on his eight years' experience as Secretary-General, on his own conscience and convictions, and on his understanding of the Charter of the United Nations whose principles and purposes he works on promoting.

The "2005 World Summit Jordan Forum" was centered on the UN Secretary-General's report.  The Jordan Forum brought together people involved in the field of development in Jordan, including government officials, members of Upper House and Lower House of Parliament, representatives of civil society, private sector, media, associations, academia and UN agencies.
