11 November 2009

Amman – As part of the preparations for the Copenhagen summit in December 2009 that is supposed to design a new global agreement on how to deal with climate change after 2012, the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jordan will hold a two-day workshop on “National Inter-Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change” at the Marriott hotel Amman, from 11th to 12th November 2009.  The workshop, which aims at bringing together key decision-makers from line ministries and other relevant bodies to assess the implications of climate change on key sectors in Jordan, will provide participants with an overview of current international climate negotiations and the linkages with national policies. After a general discussion on the key thematic issues being negotiated under the Bali Action Plan, the workshop will focus on the transportation, energy, water and agriculture sectors. It will also cover economic issues that have been identified as national priorities, with a view on investment and financial flows for addressing climate change for the key sectors. It is worth mentioning that Jordan’s Second National Communication Report to the United Nations Development Programme will be launched during the workshop.
