MOPIC & UNDP Emphasize Commitment Toward Implementing the Paris Declaration Principles

Amman, 30th November: The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, (UNDP) hosted a meeting at the level of Secretary General for those governmental institutions supported by UNDP.
The meeting focused on the new approach that UNDP will use in supporting the government going forward which includes the adoption of the five Paris Declaration principles namely ownership, alignment, harmonization, working towards results mutual accountability.
The meeting discussed the current implementation modality that has been used so far, verses the new approach, its challenges and opportunities. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh the Secretary General of Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and Ms. Jacinta Barrins the Country Director of UNDP. It was attended by H. Excellency the Secretary Generals of Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Water and Irrigation and representatives of ministries of Public Sector Development, Finance, Political Development, Agriculture, General Supplies Department together with National Energy Research Center, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Anti Corruption Commission, and the Jordan Customs.
H.E Dr Kharabsheh stressed the importance of moving towards the implementations of the Paris Declarations principles to guarantee full ownership and sustainability of programs. Ms. Barrins reiterated UNDP commitments to supporting the government of Jordan to implement their mandates and stressed that UNDP programmes of support will be designed within this context.
Ms. Barrins highlighted the significance of next week’s regional meeting, that will be hosted by the government of Jordan with support by UNDP, with large participation of governments from the region (Middle East , Eastern Europe, Commonwealth Independent Countries) to discuss how to complete the self assessment survey to measure the progress that Jordan and its donor partners are making in implementing the Paris Declaration principles.
