General Services Unit

Our General Services Unit is responsible for the smooth running of the UNDP-Jordan premises, that involves management and maintenance of the office infrastructure, vehicles, equipment and other assets. Other responsibilities include procurement of goods and services, travel management, information technology, administrative and logistical support to UNDP projects and to some other UN agencies, including arranging conferences and workshops. The unit also supports the international staff in administrative issues such as obtaining residency permits, driving licenses, ID cards and customs clearances.

 
 

Procurement


The Unit manages all procurement undertaken by the country office and handles other special requests from our implementing partners. It also ensures that quality services are provided on time and in an effective manner through locally negotiated contracts and long term agreements.


The Unit manages the process of procuring goods and services by liaising with project personnel on specifications, delivery/payment terms and funding availability. Thus, it seeks to obtain favourable prices, reliable delivery conditions, insurances, and impartial advice. It also manages all submissions to the Asset and Procurement Committees
.

Special Service Agreements (SSA)/Individual Contractors (IC), the maintenance of the roster of suppliers, and conducting a number of annual surveys in relation to market rates are all the responsibility of the Unit. 

 

Travel Management

 

 

The Unit manages travel arrangements for all the country office staff travelling within and out of the country. It also manages the daily movement of all vehicles as part of ensuring the effective delivery of projects.


 

 

Asset Management

 


The Unit has the overall responsibility for all stages in the acquisition, receipt, custody, maintenance and disposal of non-expendable assets which are controlled and safeguarded by the UNDP. This duty includes tracking and record-keeping for all related transactions which are uploaded on our UNDP Assets ATLAS, ERP system.

  

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)


The Information and Communications Unit is responsible for the management and maintenance of the information technology infrastructure in the country office. It also implements ICT systems and strategies and provides daily technical support to users. The Unit ensures effective functioning of the hardware and software packages, facilitates IT knowledge strengthening and sharing, and is responsible for the web management services. It also provides IT advice on options for new technologies which may be purchased under our many programmes.
