UNDP project ” Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling’’ organised an event...

Objectives

  • UNDP initiated the formulation of this regional programme to help in addressing the pressing issues related to the fulfillment of the MDGs and the WSSD goals in the Arab countries. The UNDP project will focus on the development and implementation tools for Arab Countries to fulfill the water related obligations to achieve their set goals. On the other hand, monitoring the progress of such development and implementation phases will be essential to identify the strength and weakness of development plans.

Key Expected Results

  • UNDP is helping the implementing partner in the selection of a national consultant, who is going to prepare a comprehensive assessment on Jordan’s needs in Water sector, and will identify the priority areas to be funded through the project.
  • The expected results from this programme are to improve the effective use and management of scarce water resources in Arab States, supporting the achievements of the MDG 7 particularly with respect to improved water supply and sanitation. Through this programme UNDP will provide technical and policy support, capacity building and seed funding for activities in the areas of 1) Integrated Water Resources Management; 2) Local management of water resources, water supply and sanitation; 3) Capacity building and institutional strengthening; and 4) MDG-7 water targets monitoring and State of the Water Report for the Arab Region.
  • In addition the project is expected to address some cross-cutting dimensions such as adaptation to climate change, trans-boundary water management, gender mainstreaming and awareness rising.

Key Achievements todate

  • Final Draft of the National Needs Assessment Report - on the effective use and management of national resources as part of the regional programme on Water Governance on Arab States- was submitted by the Consultant for final comments by UNDP.
  • Final Report will be shared with the UNDP Cairo during August.
