Objectives

 

  • Mainstream DRR into business processes in ASEZA, develop and implement institutional set-up and build DRR-related capacity with ASEZA staff and local communities.

Key Expected Results

Key Achievements todate

 

  • DRR Unit within ASEZA established with Head of Unit + min 3 ASEZA staff; TORs for DRR Unit staff developed; Focal Point (FP) appointed and formalized; financial modality agreed upon; office set up and equipped for the DRR Unit.
     
  • Organization and/or active participation in competency (community-based DRR, risk-sensitive land use etc…) and PCM trainings (reporting, general PCM, proposal writing etc…) – joint with other IPs (PDTRA) as well as the UNDP Marine Park Project.
     
  • High-level political support secured from local and national decision-makers through advocacy events – joint with UNDP Aqaba Marine Park Project – allowing for the submission of ASEZA DRM setup proposal as official letter from UNDP Country Director to ASEZA Chief Commissioner. The set-up is based on recommendations from the previous Aqaba project.
     
  • ASEZA Inception WS organized with participation by 62 representatives of national and local stakeholders (including communities, private sector etc…); political level (Commissioner of Environment); project donor etc.
     
  • Multiple updates of DRM Master Plan submitted by the DRR Unit FP (Head of Unit) to reflect the continuous progress of implementation (most recent version submitted in July 2012).
     
  • Neighborhoods Disaster Volunteers (NDV) concept note developed, transferable experience identified and study tour to SDC-funded MAG project in Turkey conducted to ensure South-South Cooperation. NDV Inception workshop conducted; NDV Action Plan developed and under implementation for pilot neighborhood (Al-Radhwan) in Aqaba.
     
  • Draft configuration and specifications for Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) as pilot project.
